Overlook Family Medicine residents may take advantage of electives in areas such as adolescent medicine, rehabilitation medicine, endocrinology, sports medicine, radiology, complementary and alternative medicine and more. Core rotations such as orthopedics, sports medicine, dermatology, ophthalmology, otolaryngology (ENT) and urology are provided as preceptorships in the private offices of Overlook Medical Center attending physicians or at area clinics.
While rotations and electives with specialists offer important learning, we believe the learning obtained in these settings is secondary in importance to the learning obtained through practice as a family physician. Office responsibilities and care of the resident's own primary care patients, including inpatient care and nursing home care of those patients, are priorities for the resident's time.
