Overlook Family Medicine residents are offered a variety of rotations with local practitioners, including orthopedists, physiatrists and family doctors with sports medicine training; residents learn to manage medical issues specific to the athlete.
The program features a monthly musculoskeletal and sports medicine lecture series given by the sports medicine fellows. Workshops cover procedures specific to athletics, including joint injection and joint-specific examination. Residents also receive special training in sideline management of sports injuries at school games, and then function as sideline physicians at local high school football games. Our residents also participate in the annual “Medfest,” which involves pre-participation examinations of Special Olympics athletes.
Residency graduates may also apply for Atlantic Health System Sports Medicine Fellowships. Our graduates have been very successful in obtaining these positions.
