Emergency Medicine Residency Curriculum

Our Emergency Medicine Residency curriculum consists of lectures, conferences and rotations:

Morning Report: 7:00 to 8:00am

  • Review interesting cases from the previous 24 hours and reinforce basic emergency medicine principles.
  • Provide junior residents with useful hints and advice regarding the essentials of emergency patient management.
  • Allow senior residents to develop their teaching skills and presentation style.

The senior resident working the previous night shift, with the assistance of junior residents and medical students, will present one or two cases from the previous 24 hours. Unless time allows for completeness, the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM) format will be condensed.

Interesting x-rays, ultrasounds and computed tomography (CT) scans, and subjects of interest will be discussed, along with “The Pearls of Wisdom.” Attendance is mandatory for those emergency medicine, internal medicine, pediatric residents and medical students working the previous night shift and that day shift.

Conferences

Conferences held every Wednesday concentrate on the core content of emergency medicine. Skills labs are held monthly to teach residents procedures in a controlled environment. All emergency medicine residents are expected to attend our morning report conferences. Our journal club is held monthly, concentrating on what has been learned in research design and biostatistics.

For a Wednesday conference monthly schedule, please contact Morristown Medical Center's Emergency Medicine Residency Program Coordinator (Catherine Beimfohr: catherine.beimfohr@atlantichealth.org).
