Pulmonary Hypertension

Pulmonary hypertension, or high blood pressure in the arteries of the lungs, occurs when the vessels carrying blood to the lungs become too narrow. This reduces flow capacity and makes the right side of the heart work harder and become larger. Symptoms include chest pain, dizziness, fatigue, shortness of breath and swelling in the legs, ankles or abdomen.

Although there is no cure to pulmonary hypertension, the Respiratory Therapy Department offers services that can improve symptoms and long-term outcomes.
