For patients who cannot control their epilepsy with medication alone, stereo-electroencephalography (SEEG) can help determine the precise area of the brain where seizure activity originates. Traditionally, this requires a craniotomy, but Overlook Medical Center offers a minimally-invasive option with the aid of the ROSA® Brain robot that eliminates the need to open a patient’s skull or shave their head.

Introducing Overlook Medical Center’s Rosa Brain Robot for Minimally Invasive Epilepsy Surgery

During SEEG, neurosurgeons implant electrodes within the brain to monitor seizures and pinpoint their location. The information gathered is later analyzed to determine if the patient is a candidate for surgical resection.

At Overlook Medical Center, we use the ROSA Brain to create a 3D map of the patient’s brain and plan the surgical pathways prior to SEEG. The robotic technology then provides navigation and proper alignment during the procedure, so our neurosurgeons can place electrodes in deep brain areas.

Epilepsy patients who undergo robotic-assisted SEEG can expect less scarring, shorter operating times and a faster recovery.
