The Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine Fellowship at Goryeb Children’s Hospital provides fellows with broad experience in neonatal clinical care and research. Our goal is to help fellows become clinically excellent neonatologists, who practice compassionate, evidence-based medicine in a caring, patient-centered, and culturally sensitive manner.
We aim to provide our fellows with the following:
Clinical excellence
Defined as providing the highest quality care to neonatal patients and their families, and to treat families and patients with compassion and respect. To teach fellows how to critically assess the care they provide, to constantly reassess the way they care for patients, and to incorporate new issues and new therapies into practice based on evidence-based assessments of those therapies.
Scholarship, Research, and Quality Improvement
Defined as teaching fellows how to be excellent scholars, how to review the medical literature, synthesize the information it provides, and how to incorporate those findings into clinical practice. To use quality improvement methods to improve the care provided to patients. To develop research skills (clinical, translational, or basic science) that will allow them to advance the science of neonatology and improve outcomes of critically sick infants.
Education, Administration, and Leadership
Defined as developing life-long habits of inquiry and self-improvement. To understand new and novel scientific findings and incorporate them into their own practice; and to become role models for others and encourage professional and compassionate care for vulnerable infants.
By the time you graduate from our fellowship program, you will be prepared to be a great clinician, a champion for your patients and their families, a confident scholar, and an asset to the group you join.
