Yes. Overlook Medical Center has strong affiliations with many medical schools including:

Medical students are assigned to work on our inpatient medical service, and residents have the opportunity to teach and mentor them.

Yes, you will have the opportunity to work with a faculty advisor who is assigned to you and the opportunity to choose a faculty mentor based on your career or research interests.

Does your program uphold duty hour requirements?

Our program strictly complies with all ACGME duty hours requirements, including a work week limited to less than 80 hours and one day off in seven (averaged over four weeks).

Our three year rolling boards pass rate is at the national average: 91%.

Is there a night float system?
-
Yes, there is a night float system in place. Night float residents provide cross-coverage and admit new patients for the daytime general medical floor teams between 8:30pm and 7:00am. We also have night coverage for the ICU service - ICU night coverage runs from 7:30pm and 7:00am.

Are there admission caps?
-
PGY1 admissions are capped at five new admissions and two transfers within a 24-hour period. The program complies with all caps as written in the ACGME internal medicine program requirements.

How are residents evaluated?
-
Resident performance is closely monitored and evaluated in numerous ways.
- Faculty members directly observe residents providing patient care and provide timely and constructive feedback based on these sessions.
- Residents receive verbal and written feedback at the end of each clinical rotation.
- All residents take the annual In-Training Examination administered by the American College of Physicians.
- In-patient and out-patient charts are reviewed for quality using standard criteria.
- The program faculty members meet with residents twice a year (or more as needed) to provide mentoring and feedback on performance.
- The Department of Medicine’s Clinical Competence Committee monitors resident performance on a bi-annual basis.

Are there other residency programs at Overlook Medical Center?

Yes. Overlook Medical Center has a vibrant academic graduate medical education community. You will meet and work closely with residents from Overlook’s dental, diagnostic radiology, family medicine and pharmacy residencies. There is a very collegial atmosphere, and all residencies participate in the Atlantic Health System House Staff and Quality Council.

Does Overlook Medical Center have subspecialty fellowship programs?

Yes, Overlook Medical Center is host to a Rheumatology fellowship
program. Having fewer fellows leads to our residents working one-on-one with subspecialty attendings during elective rotation and procedures are directly supervised by subspecialty attendings.Many of our recent graduates secured fellowship positions at our
sister hospital Morristown Medical Center in the following subspecialties:- Cardiology
- Geriatric Medicine
- Hematology Oncology
- Sports Medicine

What types of research opportunities and resources are available?

The Atlantic Health System has an active institutional review board and residents work with faculty members on both investigator and sponsor-initiated research. Atlantic Health also has robust online resources for didactic topics on the principle of research design, statistics, IRB approval process, etc. Residents are expected to complete a case report by the end of the intern year.

How does your ancillary support services compare to other hospitals?

Overlook has 24/7 ancillary support services. There is no reliance on residents to perform non-physician duties.

Will I be exposed to telemedicine?

Yes. You will have the opportunity to see patients in virtual visits during the ambulatory block utilizing our virtual platform embedded in EPIC allowing for a safe and HIPAA compliant alternative to provide medical care. You also will be involved in the use of the telestroke robot >
