Life During Residency

Life During Residency

Morristown Medical Center internal medicine residents at a social gathering

Promoting the wellness of our residents in order to combat physician burnout is a critical part of the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Morristown Medical Center. Our residency program is committed to ensuring our residents feel well-supported during their time with us. A few specific initiatives are listed below:

  • Dedicated social committee with annual funding for monthly resident events such as kayaking, bowling, local dinners, and weekend trips. We also have an annual fall foliage hike to the Delaware Water Gap
  • Celebrating resident birthdays monthly with food and snacks in our main conference room
  • Weekly wellness afternoons during ambulatory block to give our residents time to focus on well-being and to attend personal appointments

Diversity and Inclusion

We value and promote a diverse and inclusive residency program and we make sure qualified trainees from all backgrounds are welcome and supported. Our residents and program faculty actively work with recruitment to ensure we attract diverse candidates for our program.

Housing Options

We are fortunate to be able to provide subsidized housing located right behind the hospital for many of our residents. This graduate student housing complex called Franklin Village also includes members of other residency and fellowship programs and serves as a supportive and social environment for our trainees. Our trainees are welcome to find their own housing as well in the nearby area.

Life in Morristown

Morristown is an up-and-coming city in northwestern New Jersey, perhaps best known for its prominence during the American Revolution as the home of George Washington and the Continental Army. The Morristown area is home to many Fortune 500 and pharmaceutical companies, which provide a robust employment environment. The Morris County parks system is one of the best in the state. Morristown also has a train station in the center of town which offers a one-hour train ride to Penn Station in the heart of New York City.
