Curriculum

Physicians enrolled in Morristown Medical Center’s Emergency Medicine Services (EMS) Fellowship participate in courses, conferences, meetings, community outreach programs, paramedic training and pre-hospital care.

Program Curriculum

The duration of the program is 52 weeks and includes:

  • Two week orientation
  • 38 weeks – study of EMS core content, electives and an away rotation
  • A four week (consecutive) research block
  • Four weeks of vacation
  • Four weeks (combined) of conferences/courses

EMS Core Content Week

EMS core content week includes:

  • Didactics – half-day per week
  • Administration and teaching – one day per week
  • Field practice – one day per week (ground ALS and physician support vehicle)
  • Field sub-specialty practice – one day per week
  • Clinical shifts – one day per week

Administrative/Educational Responsibilities
  • Local and state level meetings (MICU Advisory Council)
  • Atlantic Health specific meetings
  • Atlantic Mobile Health quality assurance meeting
  • Atlantic Mobile Health medical oversight board meeting
  • Emergency medicine peer review committee
  • Bio-ethics committee
  • Atlantic Health and Morristown Medical Center disaster committee
  • STEMI, stroke and trauma committees
Research
  • EMS focused project with manuscript submission/abstract presentation at national meeting (core)
  • Research resources and mentors provided by the fellowship faculty and the department of emergency medicine
  • Develop, implement and complete a QI project (core)
  • Give presentation at the National Conference on EMS 
  • Participate in a mass casualty and disaster triage at an actual event or drill (core)
  • Participate in a mass gathering medical plan and participation in its implementation (core)
  • Participate in the development or revision of an EMS Protocol (core)

  • Atlantic Mobile Health paramedic competencies
  • Prehospital provider remediation
  • Paramedic refresher training course
  • County College of Morris undergraduate paramedic program
Resident Education
  • Four lectures per year at resident conference
  • Cadaver lab
  • Participation in resident SIM Lab
  • Oversight of resident and medical student EMS rotation

  • Monthly fellowship Journal Club – for residents, attendings and pre-hospital staff
