The foot is a complex part of the body, containing many joints, nerves, and small bones. Since the foot bears the full weight of the human body whenever we stand, walk or run, the foot is prone to many injuries. Some injuries may occur due to strenuous sports activities; others may be the result of genetic deformities, improper footwear, or overuse.
Foot Surgery
We perform surgeries to correct common foot problems, such as:
- Posterior tibial tendon reconstruction
- Spring ligament repair
- Lisfranc injury fixation
- Bunion correction or removal
- Hammertoe correction
- Neuroma excision
- Cheilectomy for hallux rigidus
- Subtalar fusion
- Sesamoidectomy
- Foot fracture fixation
- Foot revision surgery
Ankle Surgery
Most often ankle injuries are caused by simple falls, accidents, or by recreational or athletic activities. We diagnose and treat all types of injuries related to the ankle:
- Achilles rupture repair
- Ankle ligament reconstruction
- Peroneal tendon repair
- Achilles reconstruction with FHL tendon transfer
- Ankle arthroscopy
- Total ankle replacement
- Ankle fusion
- Ankle fracture fixation
- Ankle revision surgery
- Lisfranc injury fixation
- Cheilectomy for hallux rigidus
Cartilage Repair
While cartilage damage in the feet and ankles has historically been treated with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) to reduce pain and inflammation, there are now many other methods of combating the problem, only a few of them surgical. We are trained in a variety of cartilage reparation treatments that will accelerate healing:
- Fresh osteochondral allograft transplantation
- Juvenile allograft transplantation
- Platelet rich plasma treatment
- Bone marrow stimulation
- Bone marrow aspirate
- Matrix-induced autologous chondrocyte implantation (MACI)
