Morristown Medical Center
Joint implants can last 15 to 20 years, sometimes longer, and enable patients to live more active lifestyles without pain. Some patients, particularly those who get joint replacements at a young age, may need a second surgery to replace some or all of the original implant. This is called a joint revision. Our experienced surgeons use the latest techniques for knee, hip, shoulder and ankle revision procedures.
Reasons for joint revisions can include:
- infection
- failed replacements
- replacement has become worn or loose
- dislocation
- ankle fusion or arthrodesis
- broken or fractured replacements
- the implant has reached the end of its lifespan
Consult one of our specialists if you start noticing issues with your artificial joint, such as pain that begins suddenly, decreased range of motion, redness or warmth around the joint, or if the affected joint feels rigid or like it’s coming out of place. Your doctor can assess the joint for damage and discuss treatment options.
