Our medical team at the Valve and Structural Heart Center located at Gagnon Cardiovascular Institute has the experience and innovative equipment required to treat complex conditions stemming from structural and valvular heart disease.
The heart has four valves that help control blood flow through the body - the mitral, tricuspid, aortic, and pulmonic. Valves help blood to flow in the correct direction and prevent backward flow of blood.
The mitral valve and tricuspid valve are located between the upper and lower chambers of the heart, also know as the atria and the ventricle. The aortic valve and pulmonic valve are located between the lower chambers and the major blood vessels leaving the heart.
In heart valve disease, on or more of the valves in your heart doesn’t work properly. This can result in a variety of heart valve conditions.
