Nuclear cardiology techniques are non-invasive imaging studies used to monitor blood flow to the heart. These studies can help diagnose and guide treatment in patients with the following conditions:
- Coronary Artery Disease
- Amyloidosis
- Sarcoidosis
- Cardiac device infection
Atlantic Health System Heart Care offers the following nuclear cardiology tests:
- Single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) stress testing - during a SPECT stress test, a small amount of radioactive substance is injected into the bloodstream and cameras record the blood flow to and from the heart.
- SPECT PYP imaging – After PYP administration a SPECT camera is used to produce images of the heart. This test is indicated for those with known or suspected amyloid disease of the heart. This test is available at Morristown Medical Center and Overlook Medical Center.
Morristown Medical Center offers the additional nuclear cardiology studies:
- Positron emission tomography (PET)/CT Rubidium stress testing – this stress test uses PET/CT imaging to monitor blood flow to the heart muscle and to evaluate known or suspected coronary artery disease.
- PET/CT FDG imaging – This test uses the PET/CT camera to assess whether the heart muscle is alive.
Heart care services may vary by location. Please confirm when booking an appointment.
