The Jets 2020 first round draft pick - Mekhi Becton - kept up the tradition of making Goryeb Children’s Hospital one of his first visits, although virtually this year, in NJ!
Since an in person visit was not possible, Becton was still able to take a virtual tour via Facebook of Goryeb Children’s Hospital. It’s a wonderful tradition that COVID-19 could not interrupt. As the hospital’s team traveled from room to room and unit to unit, Mekhi was introduced to team members and children. The uplifting conversations, warm sentiments for healing, smiles and laughter were the same even though miles apart.
Mekhi offered a special surprise to each child at the end of their time together – tickets for the child and their family to attend a Jets game. The kids were thrilled and smiles came to faces that our team members mentioned hadn’t been smiling too much lately. Upon learning that one of the children Mekhi was to visit was sleeping, he asked if he could leave a video message and of course, our team obliged.
Like the many Jets player visits to Goryeb Children’s Hospital in the past, Mekhi provided well needed fun and distraction, and a very special memory that will last long after they leave the hospital.
